KLAUS WAGENSONNER, YALE BABYLONIAN COLLECTION (YPM BC 37054 = NCBS 157)

KING OF DEATH. This digitally unrolled cylinder seal from the Old Babylonian period (c. 2000–1600 B.C.E.) shows a scene of a deity, possibly Nergal, holding a sword and overseeing a lion-headed demon who torments a human. The seal itself appears on the left, and its scenes are digitally unrolled and flattened on the right.
