CRETAN GREETINGS. Depictions from New Kingdom Egypt connect the Kephtiu to the Aegean world, specifically to Crete. In the above scene, the Kephtiu—in Aegean dress, resembling that of the Minoans—bring gifts of metal vessels and ingots. The scene comes from the Tomb of Rekhmire at Thebes and dates to the 15th century B.C.E., during the reign of Thutmose III. The pictured facsimile painting is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
