EZRA FRAGMENT. Three fragments of the Book of Ezra, which once belonged to the same scroll, were found in Cave 4 at Qumran. This piece, the largest of the three, records part of Ezra 5:17-6:5. The other fragments contain portions of Ezra 4:2-6 and Ezra 4:9-11. The figure of Ezra steps onto the stage in chapter 7 of the Book of Ezra, though none of Ezra’s story—his role as priest, scribe, and teacher of the law—is preserved among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
