MAKER OF THE GATES. Nicanor’s ossuary, found within his tomb complex on Mt. Scopus, has been moved to the British Museum. It bears a bilingual inscription (close-up here). The first three lines, written in Greek, say, “The ossuary of Nicanor of Alexandria, who made the gates.” The smaller fourth line of Aramaic writing says, “Nicanor the Alexandrian.”
