The tentative identification of the textual families (B.P.E.) by Frank Moore Cross is based on all of the data, old and new, including QumraÆn fragments, the Masoretic text and the Old Greek versions. Usually the QumraÆn material is Palestinian (P). In the case of Jeremiah both the Palestinian and the Egyptian families are represented by manuscripts from QumraÆn.
