Bow-shaped horns mirror the sway-back of a stylized she-goat standing protectively over her suckling kid. The nursing mother and kid form part of a frieze of goats painted on a Mesopotamian vessel that dates to between 2500 and 2200 B.C. In this early example of the nursing mother from Tell Agrab, the plants, bird and fish forming the landscape are all drawn in a formal, geometric style.
