Samuel Noah Kramer. The doyen of Sumerologists attended a symposium in his honor at the University of Pennsylvania on September 27, 1987, and celebrated his 90th birthday the next day. The initial recovery and elucidation of the Sumerian literature that still survives is largely due to Professor Kramer’s decades of won in copying and translating texts held in museums all over the world. Professor Kramer has written over 200 works, including 30 books and monographs, on the Sumerians and their literature.
