Roman milestones. Although one of these stones may stand in its original position, near Dibon, in Jordan, the other stone has been moved, closing to a considerable extent the original mile-long gap.

Because Roman milestones are still in place along the paths of Roman roads, and because Roman roads often followed much earlier roads, we can use these markers to piece together a road map from biblical times.
