Pharaoh’s dreams (Genesis 41:1–7), compressed together, hover above the sleeping monarch. In this picture from the Golden Haggadah, the seven fat cows and seven fat ears of grain, representing plentitude, stand together at left center, while the seven thin cows and seven thin ears, representing famine, appear at upper right. When Joseph explained the dreams’ significance and advised a wise course of action, Pharaoh made him his prime minister.
