The second sketch (shown here, compare with previous photo), in something of a time-lapse technique, shows Jonah’s legs in the water (upper right) and his head inside the fish. According to Freedman, Jonah’s incredible survival inside the fish, an event preceding Jonah’s arrival in Nineveh and evidently reported to the people there, gave great weight to Jonah’s message.
