In this photo (compare with previous photo), the molting locust dangles head downward from his abandoned skin, which still clings to a twig by its now hollow legs. As Harold Brodsky describes in the accompanying article, the prophet Joel accurately distinguishes between four different stages in locusts’ life-cycle, using a different Hebrew noun for each stage.
