The Aleppo Codex. The finest Masoretic text, this tenth-century C.E. manuscript may have been the first vocalized, complete Hebrew Bible. Until recently, it was the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible. During a pogrom against Aleppo’s Jewish community in 1947, much of the Torah (Pentateuch) and other sections were destroyed. The page shown here is the text of 1 Chronicles 2:26–3:4. Notes on the text, seen here between, above and below the columns, are called the Masorah.
