Far and near, the Carmel displays dramatic panoramas and intimate beauty. Sloping down to the sea (shown here, compare with photo of orchid), to a narrow coastal plain at its northern end, the Carmel in profile may have led Egyptian sailors to call it Antelope-Nose.
