Although Nablus has greatly changed since David Roberts published his hand-colored lithograph Entrance to Nablous (shown here, compare with aerial view of Nablus) in The Holy Land (1842), it still contains an enclave of ancient tradition, the community of about 300 Samaritans, half the total population of nearly 600 Samaritans.
