The dejected author Alan Crown, left (compare with next photo), knows that the scroll being shown to him by a Samaritan priest is not the rarely seen Abisha scroll, as the priest claims, but another old scroll, written in 1441, in the time of the Samaritan high priest Pinhas the sixth. This and other old scrolls are often passed off as the Abisha scroll in order to satisfy inquiring visitors without exposing the precious, genuine article.
