A winged messenger, transported by delicate, heavenly rays of light, announces to Mary that she is to bear a child. This Annunciation scene is from an illuminated Book of Hours (a prayer book with psalms and prayers to be recited at specified times of the day) attributed to the court painter Jean Bourchidon of Tours (d. 1521).
