Scholarship by saw. Chemical analysis of the Copper Scroll’s two rolls (upper photo) showed that they were too brittle from oxidation to unroll and that flexibility could not be restored to them. After pondering the dilemma for three years, scholars decided to adopt an unorthodox but effective means of exposing the text (see next photo).
