“Teacher of Righteousness” (moreh ha-sedeq) says the tinted text in this fragment of column 7 from 1Q Pesher Habakkuk, a commentary on Habakkuk found in Qumran Cave 1. In the author’s opinion, the Teacher had served for a short period as high priest in Jerusalem; Jonathan the Maccabee probably removed him from office in 152 B.C.E. The Teacher of Righteousness probably wrote some of the hymns in the Thanksgiving Hymns Scroll found in Cave 1 as well as MMT, supposedly a letter to the opposition high priest of the Jerusalem Temple.
