Massive, interlocking doorframes, similar to these recessed frames carved from stone in a royal tomb at Tamassos, Cyprus, may have surrounded the doors of Solomon’s Temple. As described in 1 Kings 6:31–33, four interlocking olive-wood frames marked tile entrance to the Temple’s heikhal, while the dvir had an even more elaborate doorframe, consisting of five recessed layers.
