A series of revelations. Myrtice West decided to paint a series on the Book of Revelation (shown behind her) when she was in her 50s “to keep from going crazy.” Her only child, Martha Jane, had been shot to death in front of her, by her daughter’s estranged husband at Martha Jane’s 25th birthday party. When West finished the 14 paintings on Revelation, she painted the Book of Ezekiel.

Now 73, West has recently completed a series of paintings on the Book of Daniel. Her childhood hobby has become her way of coping with tragedy by turning to God “rather than,” as she puts it, “let Satan drag me down.”
