Signs of a more conservative time. Compared to the earlier mosaic at Hammath Tiberias (see photo of mosaic floor at Hammath Tiberias), this tile floor from the late fifth-century C.E. synagogue at Ein Gedi is almost austere, consisting of several Hebrew and Aramaic inscriptions. Among the texts are the generations from Adam to the sons of Noah (1 Chronicles 1:1–4), the names of the patriarchs, various blessings and warnings, a list of the months of the Jewish year—and the names of the signs of the zodiac.
