Similar damage was inflicted on the entryway to the synagogue at Capernaum (compare with photo of lintel above the entranceway to the synagogue at Kefar Baram). As shown in this drawing, an eagle with outspread wings once decorated the lintel. Above this, a row of small Nikes (sometimes identified as either cherubs or cupids) supported hanging garlands. The eagle was entirely eradicated. Although the bodies of the Nikes were also destroyed, the tips of their delicate wings on the ends of the garlands are still discernible in the photograph.
