Selective censorship. Iconoclasts eradicated the offensive images from this zodiac wheel, which originally formed part of a floor mosaic inside the synagogue at Naaran. At the center of the mosaic, the wheels of Helios’s chariot can still be seen (just left of center), as can the rays that once framed the sun god’s head (compare with the photo of the Hammath Tiberias mosaic). Several of the Hebrew inscriptions that identify the various zodiac signs have also survived. But the face of Helios and the images representing the signs themselves have been removed (compare with detail of zodiac wheel mosaic at Naaran).
