Gilded shrines still shine brightly after more than three millennia buried in the Egyptian desert. As shown in this drawing (compare with photo of outermost shrine and drawing of second shrine from the outside), four nested gold-plated wooden boxes enclosed the sarcophagus of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun, who died in 1325 B.C.
