In the illustrations shown here, the top roundel depicts 1 Samuel 25:1, the death of the prophet Samuel; the lower roundel illustrates the commentary on that passage, which describes “infidels and enemies of God” rejoicing at the death of a good prelate. The beards and hats worn by the men on the right are no doubt used to identify the “enemies” as Jews (compare with representative page from the Moralized Bible).
