Corrupt Christian clerics fraternize with Jewish moneylenders in the roundel shown here: The cleric at left, in the rear, hands a Jew his cloak; another, in front of him, leans over a counting board. At right, a cleric accepts a bowl of money from a Jew as another cleric, behind him, records the transaction on a tablet with a stylus. Moneylending and ecclesiastical corruption are two of the main themes of the Moralized Bible, almost to the point of obsession.
