Buddha and his guardians welcome a supplicant, on this 18th-century triptych from Beatty’s collection. Engraved and gilded on a jade tablet, the scene is part of a 53-tablet jade book inscribed with the full text of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, a Buddhist doctrine.
