In an early-fourth-century Roman sarcophagus relief (shown here, compare with photo of Roman statue of Jupiter) depicting the Sermon on the Mount, a bearded, toga-wearing Jesus preaches to the apostles gathered before him (note their upturned faces, at bottom). The fragmentary relief is now in Rome’s National Museum.
