The drawing of one of the Corinthian dining rooms shows diners engaged in typical banquet activities. The scene shows the second course or symposium: A servant (center) fills a pitcher with diluted wine—the usual beverage—and the evening’s entertainment (a flute girl) begins. Diners were placed according to their social status, beginning with the highest position (1) and descending in rank counterclockwise to the lowest position (11).
