50 Years Flashback: 2014: The Real King Taharqa

The cover of BAR’s March/April 2014 issue featured King Taharqa (shown as a small statue making an offering to the falcon-god Hemen) as one of 50 people from the Bible whose existence has been confirmed through archaeology. The associated article, “Archaeology Confirms 50 Real People in the Bible,” was the first in a series written by acclaimed historian Lawrence Mykytiuk that examined historical evidence for biblical figures ranging from King David to Jesus. The series, which became a reader favorite, ultimately identified 83 “real people” from the Bible.
