Rare Ancient Coin—Is It a Forgery?
Some of the world’s leading numismatists are puzzling over a rare ancient coin that has surfaced on the Israeli antiquities market. BAR has managed to obtain a photograph of the coin, which is pictured here.
Scholars generally agree that the coin is 2,000 years old and was minted in Israel, perhaps during the Great Jewish Revolt against Rome (66–70 C.E.). Others have suggested that it may be a forgery. What do BAR readers think?
