A Selection

Little is known about most of ancient Egypt’s 1,400 or so gods. In one myth, the god Atum emerged from Chaos to create the gods Shu and Tefnut, who created Nut and Geb—populating the heavens and the netherworld. So widespread were the gods that Akhenaten’s abstract Sun Disk, which the pharaoh proclaimed as the only god, must have been shocking indeed. Here we present a short list of Egyptian deities.
