To all of you who write us letters that are not published, I just want you to know that at least two of us, including me, read every one.
Of course there are too many to publish. Some make a point made in another letter that we do publish. Some tell us how much they enjoy BAR—and we especially appreciate these even when we do not publish them.
Sometimes people tell us about themselves and their problems. Some share a story or relate an experience—on a dig or while traveling in Israel. Some tell us about what the writer has learned studying or doing research—and we often learn from these letters. Some suggest an article we should pursue. Other people tell us of their beliefs, religious and otherwise. Sometimes people ask us questions unrelated to a particular article to which we don’t know the answer—but we’re flattered they think we do.
To all of you, I want to assure you that there are real people on this end of the correspondence. We appreciate hearing from you even though we can’t reply to every one.—H.S.
