BANQUETING IN STYLE. This Assyrian relief from King Ashurbanipal’s Northern Palace in Nineveh captures the king and his queen enjoying a garden banquet while relaxing on stylish furnishings. Dated to the mid-seventh century BCE, this scene demonstrates how ivory inlays (see boxes) were used to decorate the luxury furniture used by the period’s royals and elites, including Judahite officials who entertained guests in Jerusalem.
