NOBLE FEET. Fragments from nearly two dozen ancient Egyptian statues have been found at Hazor. Among them are a fragment, about 13 inches tall, features the lower legs and feet of a squatting figure that is similarly identified by an inscription as one Nebipu, a priest of the god Ptah in Egypt’s capital, Memphis. Dating to the reign of King Amenemhat III (r. 1818–1773), a pharaoh of Egypt’s 12th Dynasty, the statue probably arrived at Hazor several centuries later and was deliberately smashed to pieces when the city was destroyed in the late 13th century.
