HOLY GROUND. The apse in the El-Araj basilica may still be hiding the site’s most exciting treasure. Recent probes beneath the floor of the apse have begun to reveal carefully preserved earlier structures. Once the ornamental mosaics are fully removed, archaeologists will have a better understanding of these enigmatic ruins.
