To read the Jewish historian Josephus, you no longer need to go to the library. Thanks to the Digital Loeb Classical Library, you can now read online everything he and other classical authors wrote in the comfort of your own home. Josephus’s works cover everything from the origins of Hanukkah to the Jewish revolt against Rome and the siege of Masada.
Besides Josephus’s volumes, the Loeb Classical Library translates more than 500 other works from the corpus of Greek and Latin literature. Replete with notes and selective bibliographies, each volume shows the text in its original language (Greek or Latin) as well as an English translation. Unfortunately, a fee of $195 is required for a yearlong subscription. (After one year, the fee is reduced to $65/year.) Although expensive, this fee offers an insider pass to our cultural heritage.
