Bread—that basic staple common to peoples across space and time—is the focus of this new exhibit in Jerusalem. Featuring a variety of ceremonial breads and baking utensils, as well as multimedia documentation of bread’s important role in daily and ritual life, this exhibit takes a close look at the symbolic, liturgical and cultural significance of bread in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities. Biblical and literary texts, illustrated manuscripts and contemporary works of art will also help illuminate the subject.

Continuing through January 1, 2007

The era during which Tutankhamun and his family ruled Egypt is often referred to as the “Golden Age of the Pharaohs.” This new exhibit allows visitors to see stunning artifacts and exquisite works of art that display the splendors of Egypt during the 18th Dynasty. Combining history and technology, the display includes Tutankhamun’s golden diadem, his child-sized throne and modern CT scans of his mummy, which have made it possible to create a realistic bust of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun.
