Covered with decorative gold-plated bronze nails, this faience wig comes from Susa, Iran, and dates to the Iron Age, specifically to the eighth–sixth centuries B.C.E. In 1903, French archaeologist Jacques de Morgan discovered the wig inside a wooden trunk on the city’s acropolis. The trunk contained a cache of precious objects, including a silver mask, cylinder seals, and another wig. The two wigs were likely once affixed to the heads of figurines. This wig is currently on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.
